SBI Report: Women becoming empowered through government schemes

New Delhi| The amount sent through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to women’s accounts under various government schemes in eight states has crossed Rs 2 lakh crore. SBI’s report released on Wednesday said that schemes like Namoshree and Mukhyamantri Ladli Bahna are running in Delhi, West Bengal, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Odisha.
According to the information, these schemes are playing a big role in empowering women. Under these schemes, 2.11 lakh crore assistance has been given to women in these states so far. This amount is 3-11 percent of the revenue receipts of the states.
In view of the elections in the states, political parties are promising to give women voters Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000 every month to woo them. Under the Griha Lakshmi scheme in Karnataka, the state government gives Rs 2,000 every month to the female head of the family. Under Chief Minister Ladli Bahna in Madhya Pradesh, women are being given Rs 1,250 per month.
