Computer market expected to grow 5.1 percent annually; Eros Media promoter fined 5 million

New Delhi| The computer market in India could grow at 5.1 percent annually over the next five years. Laptop imports into India have risen 10.8 percent in the three months that ended in August, S&P Global Market Intelligence said in a report. Apple has more stake in this. According to the report, if laptop assembly expands in India, imports of spare parts may also increase. There will be large imports of computer components (excluding semiconductors) in the 12 months to August 2024 from China and Hong Kong. This can motivate the government to encourage manufacturing as well as assembly of spare parts. The market intelligence firm believes India could reimpose rules limiting imports of laptops during 2025. It was extended back in 2023. Other policies including production linked incentives (PLIs) can also be considered to expand the domestic manufacturing industry.
Securities and Exchange Board of India i.e. SEBI has imposed a fine of Rs 50 lakh on Eros International Media promoter Sunil Lula in a case related to violation of norms.
