Stock market swings after MPC decisions; Sensex rises 600 points, Nifty crosses 25150

New Delhi| BSE Sensex rose by 615.13 (0.75%) points to 82,249.94 after RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das announced to keep the repo rate unchanged at 6.5%. On the other hand, the 50-share NSE Nifty was seen trading at 25,052.80 points, climbing 197.80 (0.79%) points or 0.16 percent.

Shares of Tata Motors, Tech Mahindra, Bajaj Finance, Maruti Suzuki India, HCL Technologies, State Bank of India, Bharti Airtel, Asian Paints and Axis Bank surged among the 30 Sensex companies.

On the other hand, selling was seen in shares of ITC, Nestle India, HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Reliance Industries and JSW Steel. In Asian markets, South Korea’s Kospi, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and China’s Shanghai Composite appeared in the red, while Japan’s Nikkei rose 225 points. The US market closed with a decline on Tuesday. On the other hand, Brent crude, the global index of crude oil, rose by 0.32 percent to reach a price of $ 77.43 per barrel.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 5,729.60 crore on Tuesday, according to stock market data. In contrast, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth Rs 7,000.68 crore.
