Amit Shah to move Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, NCDC Amendment Bill for passage in Lok Sabha today

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to move the Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2026 and the National Co-operative Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2026 for consideration and passing in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

According to the Revised List of Business, Shah will move a motion for consideration of the Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2026, which seeks to change the name of the State from Kerala to Keralam. He will also move the motion for its passage.

The proposal to rename Kerala as Keralam was approved by the Union Cabinet in February this year. The President subsequently referred the Bill to the Kerala Legislative Assembly for its views under Article 3 of the Constitution. The Kerala Assembly unanimously approved the proposal in July.

Shah will also move the National Co-operative Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which seeks to amend the National Co-operative Development Corporation Act, 1962. The Bill will be taken up for consideration and passing, along with any amendments proposed through the relevant lists.

The two Bills were among four key pieces of legislation introduced in the Lok Sabha on Monday amid Opposition protests. The other two were the Tribunals Reforms Bill, 2026 and the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026.

The day’s proceedings will begin with Question Hour at 11 am, followed by the laying of papers on the Table by Union Ministers.

The Secretary General will also report messages received from the Rajya Sabha regarding the Bankers’ Books Evidence Bill, 2026 and the Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026.

Reports of various Parliamentary Standing Committees are also scheduled to be presented during the proceedings.

The Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs will present its Twelfth Report on action taken by the government on recommendations contained in its Ninth Report on Demands for Grants for 2026-27 relating to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

The Standing Committee on Rural Development and Panchayati Raj will present reports covering the Department of Rural Development, Department of Land Resources and Ministry of Panchayati Raj. The reports also include matters relating to rural skilling and migration and the implementation of schemes including Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana, Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission and Rural Self Employment Training Institutes.

The Committee will also present a report on the implementation of the Digital India Land Records Modernisation Programme.

Statements on the status of implementation of recommendations of various Parliamentary Standing Committees are also scheduled to be made.

The House will subsequently take up matters under Rule 377 before proceeding with the remaining legislative business.
