PM Modi to visit Kerala and Tamil Nadu on March 11, launch projects worth around Rs 16,450 crore
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kerala and Tamil Nadu on March 11, where he will inaugurate, dedicate to the nation and lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth around ₹16,450 crore across key sectors including petroleum and natural gas infrastructure, highways, rural connectivity and railways.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Modi will first attend a programme in Ernakulam at around 1:30 pm, where he will launch projects worth about ₹10,800 crore. Later in the evening, he will travel to Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for projects valued at about ₹5,650 crore.
Projects in Kerala
During the programme in Ernakulam, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for a Polypropylene Unit at the Kochi Refinery of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, being developed at a cost of over ₹5,500 crore. The unit will have a production capacity of 400 kilo tonnes per annum and is expected to boost domestic polymer manufacturing while reducing import dependency.
In the road infrastructure sector, PM Modi will inaugurate two major highway projects. These include the six-laning of the Thalapady-Chengala section of National Highway 66, constructed at a cost of more than ₹2,650 crore, and the six-laning of the Kozhikode Bypass from Vengalam to Ramanattukara, developed at around ₹2,140 crore. The projects are expected to improve connectivity, reduce travel time and strengthen trade and tourism links in northern Kerala.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate 23 rural roads built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, aimed at improving connectivity in remote areas and enhancing access to markets, healthcare and education.
Additionally, he will inaugurate three redeveloped railway stations – Shoranur Junction, Kuttippuram Railway Station and Changanassery Railway Station – under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. These stations have been upgraded with improved passenger amenities and modern facilities.
PM Modi will also dedicate to the nation the Shoranur-Nilambur Road railway line electrification project and flag off a new train service between Palakkad and Pollachi, which will enhance rail connectivity between Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for a 50 MW floating solar project at West Kallada in Kollam district, aimed at strengthening India’s renewable energy capacity.
Projects in Tamil Nadu
Later in the day, PM Modi will attend a programme in Tiruchirappalli where projects worth ₹5,650 crore will be launched.
In the petroleum and natural gas sector, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for a City Gas Distribution Network being developed by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited in The Nilgiris district and Erode district, with an investment of over ₹3,680 crore. The project is expected to provide PNG connections to more than 8.8 lakh households, supply gas to over 200 commercial establishments, and establish more than 200 CNG stations.
The Prime Minister will also dedicate to the nation a 672 thousand metric tonnes per annum Lube Blending Plant developed by Indian Oil Corporation Limited at Manali, built at an investment of around ₹1,490 crore.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, PM Modi will inaugurate 89 rural roads covering about 370 kilometres across Tamil Nadu to strengthen rural connectivity. He will also lay the foundation stone for a greenfield bypass near Gangaikonda Cholapuram on National Highway 81.
The Prime Minister will also flag off two Amrit Bharat Express trains, two express trains and a passenger train service, aimed at improving rail connectivity between Tamil Nadu and other states including Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala and regions of eastern India.
