Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday extended greetings on the occasion of International Women’s Day, praising the achievements of India’s Nari Shakti and saying their contributions continue to shape the country’s progress.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said women across India are contributing to national development with “determination, creativity and unmatched zeal.”

“On International Women’s Day, I extend my greetings to all our Nari Shakti. Across every field, women are shaping India’s progress with determination, creativity and unmatched zeal. Their achievements inspire our nation and strengthen our collective resolve to build a Viksit Bharat,” he wrote.

Highlighting the government’s focus on women-led development, PM Modi said empowerment of women remains central to several government schemes and initiatives.

“Empowerment of women is at the core of our various schemes and initiatives. We remain committed to creating opportunities that enable every woman to realise her full potential and contribute to India’s journey of development,” he added.

The Prime Minister also shared a thread by MyGovIndia, the government’s official X account, showcasing the achievements of women across sectors and highlighting how “New Naris are powering a New India.”

The post noted that women are making strides in areas ranging from defence and entrepreneurship to science, governance and social leadership.

In the defence sector, it highlighted increasing participation of women, noting that girls are now studying in Sainik Schools and that the first-ever batch of women cadets has graduated from the National Defence Academy (NDA). It also pointed to the rise in women officers in the armed forces and pioneers such as Shivangi Singh, India’s first woman Rafale fighter pilot.

The post further noted that women entrepreneurs are playing an expanding role in the startup ecosystem. Initiatives such as Startup India and Stand Up India have helped promote women-led enterprises, while nearly half of India’s startups now have women directors.

It also highlighted progress in maternal healthcare, noting that nearly 90 per cent of deliveries now take place in health facilities, while millions of high-risk pregnancies have been detected through regular health check-ups.

The post concluded by celebrating achievements of women athletes, including India’s victory in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 and the inaugural Blind Women’s T20 World Cup 2025, describing them as milestones for Indian women in sports.
