5 soldiers injured, one terrorist killed in fresh encounter between security forces and terrorists in Kupwara.

Jammu| Fresh encounter erupted between security forces and terrorists in Trehgam area of the district on Saturday. Five soldiers are said to be injured in this encounter. The condition of two of them is critical. A terrorist has been killed by the soldiers.

Officials said that on Saturday morning, an encounter took place with terrorists in forest areas near the Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector of Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir. One terrorist was killed in this encounter, while five soldiers were injured in the firing. The condition of two of the injured soldiers is said to be critical.

Since past few weeks, repetitive terrorist attacks have been reported in the forested areas of Jammu. Recently terrorists attacked a pilgrim bus in which nine people were killed, while 40 were injured. Also in October 2021, terrorist activities resurfaced from the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri. Terrorist incidents have also increased in Reasi, Kathua and Doda. More than 70 people, including more than 50 security personnel (mostly from the military), have been killed in terrorist incidents in the Jammu region since 2021.
