Yogi government’s emphasis on GI tagging to make Bundelkhand a hub of agro production

Lucknow| By encouraging agriculture and horticulture in Bundelkhand, the Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh is making efforts to connect the farmers here with the national and international market. Due to the joint efforts of Yogi government and NABARD, FPO of Jhansi has got the GI tag of Kathia wheat. Now, an application has been filed to get GI tag for ginger through an FPO in Jhansi district itself. It is expected that after getting the GI tag in the coming time, the ginger producers here will get better market and price and the production of ginger will also increase.

GI tag i.e. Geographical Indication tag recognizes the specific production or yield of a particular area. NABARD and Horticulture Department have prepared the proposal and filed the application through FPO of Jhansi. The proposal for GI tag has been prepared with the help of experts.

After testing the application, it will get GI tag and like Kathia wheat, identification of ginger will also prove to be a big achievement in Bundelkhand region. Due to standardization of production quality, the product here will get better prices and its demand will increase. A large number of farmers have been cultivating ginger in Baruasagar and surrounding areas. The government also emphasizes on increasing their number. NABARD District Development Manager Bhupesh Pal said that an application for GI tag of ginger has been made through an FPO of Jhansi.

NABARD and Horticulture Department are jointly providing help in this work. Expert help has been taken to prepare the GI proposal. An application has been filed to get GI tagging for ginger.
