‘Working more than 8-9 hours is not good for humans’, said Adar Poonawala on work life balance

New Delhi| Adar Poonawala, CEO of Serum Institute of India, has stressed the importance of work life balance, saying that human productivity cannot exceed 8-9 hours. Adar Poonawala’s comments came after Larsen & Toubro (L&T) chairman S. N. Subramanian endorsed a 90-hour work week. Subramanian had said that he regrets that he is not able to get his employees to work even on Sundays.
Speaking to a website, Poonawala said how much man can bear. “Man cannot be productive for more than 8-9 hours”, said Serum’s CEO. Sometimes, you have to work so many hours, and that’s okay, but you can’t do that every day. From Monday to Sunday, you can’t just work in the office. It’s a little impractical.”

The L&T chairman faced criticism for his comments on working hours. He had said what will the employees do sitting at home? He said, “How long can you stare at your wife? Come on, go to the office and start working.”
