Wholesale Inflation: Slight rise in wholesale inflation, WPI rises to 2.38% from 2.31% in January

New Delhi| In February, the wholesale price inflation rate increased to 2.38 percent. In January, it was 2.31 per cent. This information was given in the government data released on Monday. According to government data released on Monday the positive rate of inflation in February, 2025 is mainly due to the increase in prices of manufacturing of food products, food items, other manufacturing, non-food items and textile manufacturing etc. In a survey, economists had estimated wholesale price inflation at 2.36%.

Wholesale food inflation declined from 7.47% in January to 5.94% last month. Inflation for primary commodities declined from 4.69 per cent in January to 2.81 per cent in February.

Meanwhile, wholesale prices for fuel and electricity decreased by 0.71 per cent last month, compared with a 2.78 per cent decrease in January. The prices of manufactured products rose by 2.86 per cent in February, compared with a 2.51 per cent increase in the previous month.

India’s retail inflation fell to a seven-month low of 3.61% in February from 4.31% in January, according to data released earlier this month by the Centre. The decline was mainly due to a decrease in food prices, with food inflation-which accounts for almost half of the consumer price index (CPI) basket- falling from 5.97% in January to 3.75% in February.
