Wheat Purchase: A record 256.31 lakh metric tones of wheat procured in the country so far, 24.78% more than last year

New Delhi| The central government has so far procured 256.31 lakh metric tones of wheat in the central pool during Rabi marketing season 2025-26. This is 24.78 per cent more than last year’s 205.41 lakh metric tones. The major states from where procurement is taking place at present are Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana.
More wheat is being purchased in Uttar Pradesh this year compared to last year. So far, 7.55 lakh metric tones of wheat has been procured, which is much more than 5.88 lakh metric tones last time. 103.89 lakh metric tones have been procured from Punjab, 67.57 LMT from Madhya Pradesh, 65.67 LMT from Haryana. 11.44 LMT has been procured from Rajasthan. Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra said that there is still a lot of time in the current Rabi marketing season. This time wheat procurement for the country’s central pool is likely to cross last year’s figures by a huge margin. In this, farmers are being paid within 24 to 48 hours.

State specific action plans have already been shared with the states. The government has taken great caution regarding wheat procurement.
