UP: Daughters achieving big in sports and competitive examinations

Lucknow| The Uttar Pradesh government is making special efforts to connect girls from educationally backward areas with the mainstream and make them empowered and self-reliant. In this sequence, Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls School (KGBV) is proving to be a big medium, through which thousands of daughters of the state are making their mark in education, sports and administrative fields.
On the basis of these efforts, daughters are achieving remarkable achievements not only in studies but also in sports and competitive examinations. Due to this, their qualities are being inculcated and self-confidence is increasing and they are getting ready to play a new role in the society.

In Uttar Pradesh, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state government is making serious efforts to include girls from educationally backward areas in the mainstream of education. As a result of this, girls studying in KGBV are now climbing the stairs of progress and are getting selected on administrative posts by proving their ability not only in sports, quiz but also in various competitive examinations.

It is the result of the efforts of the government that Amroha’s Nidhi has secured 39th rank in the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission examination and has been selected as SDM and is increasing the prestige of the state with her working style. Archana Devi, who studied at KGBV of Unnao, represented the Indian team at the Under-19 Women’s Cricket World Cup. Nida Khatoon, a KGBV student from Mahoba, also passed the NEET exam and obtained MBBS degree and is now continuously moving forward in the medical field.

KGBV girls have performed brilliantly in the state level sports competitions of the year 2024-25. Won runner-up title in under-14 football. At the same time, four girls each have been selected in the under-14 and under-17 categories in the national football team. In addition, the girl child has obtained 2 silver and 2 bronze medals in Gatka martial arts. Similarly, one silver and bronze medal each was won in judo and wrestling. Girls have made their way to national level competition by winning 2 gold medals in Thangata martial arts.

Self-reliance and leadership abilities are being developed among KGBV girls by training them in guides. NCC Directorate has also been requested to set up NCC units in upgraded KGBV schools, so that girls can pursue careers in the Army and other defense services. KGBV girls are being encouraged to participate in sports for physical and mental development. KGBV has been recognized as a state level sports unit. Here girls are showcasing their talent at the state and national level by participating in sports like football, judo, wrestling.
