The Supreme Court has rejected the petition of former principal Sandeep Ghosh in the case of financial irregularities in RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata. RG Kar Medical College has been in the news for the last several days due to the case of rape and murder of a female doctor. Amidst the case of rape and murder of a doctor, serious allegations of financial irregularities were made in the medical college. Sandeep Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College, was at the center of these allegations.

Kolkata High Court had ordered to hand over the investigation of financial irregularities in RG Kar Medical College to CBI. Sandeep Ghosh challenged this order of the High Court in the Supreme Court. However, now the Supreme Court has rejected Sandeep Ghosh’s petition saying that he does not have the right to become a party. Opposition leaders in Bengal have alleged that there is an alliance between Sandeep Ghosh, TMC leaders and other government officials and they have committed corruption together. ED on Friday raided Sandeep Ghosh’s locations in Kolkata and Howrah in connection with financial irregularities. Sandeep Ghosh is currently in CBI custody.

Sandeep Ghosh was accused of financial irregularities when he was the principal of RG Kar Medical College. These allegations were made by Akhtar Ali, former Deputy Superintendent of RG Kar Medical College. In his complaint, Akhtar Ali had made serious allegations against Sandeep Ghosh like smuggling of unclaimed dead bodies in the hospital, corruption in disposal of bio-medical waste, nepotism in construction tenders. After receiving the complaint, Kolkata Police had registered a case against Sandeep Ghosh on 19 August under sections 120B, 420 of IPC and section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, but the CBI took over the investigation on 24 August following a High Court order.
