Sensex rises 325 points in early trade on first trading day of the week

New Delhi| The stock market opened flat on the first day of the trading week. However, after some time the market gained momentum. Sensex opened 50 points higher at 74,382.67 on BSE, later seeing a bullish market. During this time, the 30-share BSE Sensex was up 324.67 points, or 0.44 per cent, at 74,657.25. Similarly, NSE Nifty rose by 98.45 points or 0.44 percent to reach 22,650.95.

Among Sensex stocks, Power Grid, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, NTPC, Hindustan Unilever, Adani Ports, Bharti Airtel, Nestle India, HCL Technologies and Infosys witnessed significant gains. On the other hand, IndusInd Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, Zomato, Titan, Larsen & Toubro and Maruti Suzuki India declined.

The market had closed flat on Friday
Last week on Friday, BSE’s 30-share index Sensex had slipped 7.51 points to close at 74,332.58 after two days of gains. At one point during trading it had climbed 246.34 points to 74,586.43. However, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) index Nifty closed at 22,552.50 with a slight gain of 7.80 points. At one point during trading, Nifty had risen by 89 points to reach the level of 22,633.80.

Domestic investors bought heavily
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold equities worth Rs 2,035.10 crore on Friday, according to stock market data. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) on the other hand overtook FIIs by buying shares worth Rs 2,320.36 crore. Brent crude, the global oil standard, was down 0.51 percent at $70 a barrel.

Rupee falls 30 paise to 87.25 against US dollar in early trade
The rupee fell 30 paise to 87.25 against the US dollar in early trade on Monday. Investor sentiment was weighed down by the US currency’s recovery from a six-month low and trade uncertainties.

The rupee opened weak at 87.24 in the interbank foreign exchange market, falling to 87.25 against the dollar in early deals, reflecting a fall of 30 paise from the previous close. The rupee had closed 17 paise higher at 86.95 against the US dollar on Friday.
