Sanjay Raut found guilty in defamation case; 15 days imprisonment and fine charged

New Delhi| Uddhav Thackeray faction leader Sanjay Raut has been convicted in the defamation case filed by the BJP leader’s wife. A defamation case was filed against Shiv Sena Uddhav Thackeray faction leader Sanjay Raut by Medha, wife of Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kirit Somaiya. Mazgaon court has convicted Sanjay Raut in defamation claim.

Sanjay Raut, leader of the Uddhav Thackeray faction, had alleged that the Somaiya couple were involved in a Rs 100 crore scam by misusing funds for toilet construction. After this, Medha Kirit Somaiya had filed a complaint against Sanjay Raut and filed a defamation case of Rs 100 crore.

Sanjay Raut has been declared guilty in this defamation case. Metropolitan Magistrate 25th Court, Mazgaon has delivered the verdict after hearing a complaint filed by Dr Medha Kirit Somaiya on Thursday. The court sentenced Sanjay Raut to 15 days imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25000. Raut has been sentenced to Sanjay Raut under IPC section 500.

Medha, in her complaint filed in the court of Sewri Metropolitan Magistrate, had said that the allegations made by Sanjay Raut are baseless and defamatory in nature. Former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya’s wife said she was appalled to see reports that Raut has accused her and her husband of being involved in a Rs 100 crore scam over the construction and maintenance of some public toilets in the area under Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation jurisdiction. In her complaint, Medha had said that the statements of the accused given in front of the media are defamatory. Statements were made to tarnish my image in front of the general public.
