RuPay card payments debut in Maldives

New Delhi| RuPay card payments have started in Maldives. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maldives President Mohammed Muizju witnessed the first such transaction. During this, Prime Minister Modi said that RuPay card was launched in Maldives a few days ago. In the coming time, India and Maldives will be connected through UPI.

Apart from this, both of them virtually inaugurated the runway of Hanimadhu International Airport in Maldives. India also handed over more than 700 social housing units built with its support to Maldives. With this many important agreements were signed between India and Maldives. All the decisions, foundation stones and inaugurations were taken after the meeting of PM Modi and Moizzu at Hyderabad House.

During this, PM Modi said that relations between India and Maldives are centuries old. India is the closest neighbor and close friend of Maldives. Maldives has an important place in our Neighborhood First Policy and Sagar Vision. We discussed in detail various aspects of defense and security cooperation. India, Maldives discuss opening of Indian Consulate in Addu and Maldives Consulate in Bengaluru. Apart from this, work on Ektha Harbor Project is going on at a fast pace. We will work together for stability and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region. Maldives is welcome to join the Colombo Security Conclave as a Founding Member.

Maldivian President Mohammed Muizzu said that we have agreed on a comprehensive vision document, which will decide the direction of our bilateral relations. The vision of the Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership includes development cooperation, trade and economic partnerships, digital and financial initiatives, energy projects, health cooperation as well as maritime and security cooperation.
He said that I express my gratitude to India for the generous assistance including the signing of government bonds and currency swap agreements. Excited to sign a free trade agreement with India to increase Indian investment in Maldives. India is the largest source of tourism for Maldives and is expected to welcome more Indian tourists.
