RBI: Two initiatives to prevent fraud-cyber crime

New Delhi| The Reserve Bank of India instructed all banks to use the phone numbering chain starting at just 1600 to make transactional calls to customers. For promotional purposes, banks and regulated entities will use only the numbering series starting at 140 for voice calls and SMS. This step was taken with the aim of preventing financial fraud. The Reserve Bank said in the circular that criminals are committing fraud by misusing the customer’s mobile number. There have also been incidents of fraud through voice calls and SMS.
To protect mobile phones from fake calls and cyber fraud, the Department of Telecommunications has launched Sanchar Sathi app. Through this you will be able to report cyber fraud directly. In case of loss of mobile phone, it can be searched with the help of this app. While launching the app on Friday, Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that every customer’s privacy and security has been taken full care of in the app. In 2023, Sanchar Sathi portal was launched, which has proved effective. The new app will double efforts to protect against fraud.
