President Murmu attends ‘Bhoomi Pujan’ ceremony of Sri Jagannath Temple in Jamshedpur
President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday participated in the ‘Bhoomi Pujan’ ceremony of the Sri Jagannath Temple in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. The ceremony was organised by the Shri Jagannath Spiritual and Cultural Charitable Centre Trust in the Kolhan region.
Addressing the gathering, the President described Mahaprabhu Jagannath as the Lord of the entire universe whose grace is bestowed equally upon all, without discrimination. She said the Kolhan region represents a unique confluence of vibrant tribal traditions and other spiritual streams of the country, reflecting India’s rich cultural diversity and enduring social harmony.
Highlighting the spirit of communal harmony in the region, President Murmu noted that people from different communities have lived together peacefully for centuries. She said such harmony is central to devotion towards Mahaprabhu Jagannath and forms the foundation of India’s spiritual ethos.
Expressing concern over ongoing wars and conflicts around the world, the President said such developments cause her deep sadness. However, she also observed a growing global respect for Indian spiritual traditions and increasing devotion to Mahaprabhu Jagannath. This rising inclination toward spirituality, she said, strengthens faith that the Lord will protect humanity and ensure the well-being of the global community.
Emphasising the core values of India’s spiritual heritage, President Murmu said love and compassion for all living beings and nature are paramount. Charity, she added, is regarded as one of the highest virtues in Indian tradition.
The President appreciated the efforts of the Shri Jagannath Spiritual and Cultural Charitable Centre Trust in promoting education among children from underprivileged sections of society. She urged the Trust to prioritise educational opportunities for children from economically weaker families and to expand hostel facilities to support them.
She also welcomed the Trust’s initiative to organise a residential learning programme for the study of the Bhagavad Gita, saying such an effort would contribute significantly to the spiritual awakening, character building and personality development of the younger generation.
