PM Modi congratulates Mithun Chakraborty for Dadasaheb Phalke Award

New Delhi| This year’s Dadasaheb Phalke Award will be given to famous actor Mithun Chakraborty. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave this information on Monday. On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated the veteran actor.
Announcing the award to Mithun Chakraborty, Union Minister Vaishnav wrote on social media platform ‘X’, “From the streets of Kolkata to the heights of cinema, Mithun Da’s amazing cine journey has inspired generations”. The Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Committee has decided to award him this honor for his historic contribution to Indian cinema.

The minister informed that the award will be presented to Mithun Chakraborty on October 8 at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony. Responding to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav’s post on social media platform ‘X’, PM Modi wrote, “I am happy that Mithun Chakraborty ji has been honored with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award in recognition of his unique contribution to Indian cinema.” He is a cultural icon who has been appreciated for generations for his versatile performances. Congratulations and best wishes to him.”

Mithun Chakraborty started his film career with Mrinal Sen’s film Mrigaya (1976), for which he received his first National Film Award. The film was also a big hit in India and the Soviet Union of that time. After this, Mithun Da became famous all over the world through the film ‘Disco Dancer’ released in 1982.

It may be noted that, Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the biggest cinema award in India, which is given every year by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at the National Film Awards ceremony. This award is given to a person who has made extraordinary contribution to the development of Indian cinema.

Mithun Chakraborty was also recently awarded the Padma Bhushan. He received this honor from President Draupadi Murmu in this ceremony held in April. Regarding this he had said, “I am very happy”.
