PM Modi congratulates Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim on ASEAN chairmanship, to join ASEAN-India Summit virtually
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended warm congratulations to his Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim on Malaysia assuming the Chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
PM Modi conveyed his best wishes to Anwar for the successful conduct of the upcoming ASEAN-related summits under Malaysia’s leadership, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.
The two leaders discussed the importance of strengthening the ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership
In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Had a warm conversation with my dear friend, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia. Congratulated him on Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship and conveyed best wishes for the success of upcoming Summits. Look forward to joining the ASEAN-India Summit virtually, and to further deepening of the ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.”
Malaysia assumed the ASEAN Chairmanship for 2025, succeeding Laos. The country will host a series of high-level ASEAN meetings aimed at advancing regional cooperation and integration.
The 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits are scheduled to take place from October 26 to 28 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The three-day summit will conclude on October 28 with a closing ceremony, during which Malaysia will formally hand over the ASEAN Chairmanship to the Philippines. The event will mark the culmination of a pivotal year for Malaysia, highlighting its efforts to promote regional cooperation, economic integration, and shared prosperity among ASEAN member states.
