UP: PCS preliminary examination to be held in a single day

Lucknow| Accepting the demand of the protesting students, Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has now decided to conduct PCS Preliminary Examination 2024 in a single day. This decision of the Commission has come a day after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognizance of the students’ protest in Prayagraj.

Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said that Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission will now conduct the preliminary examination of UP PCS in a day. In addition, RO/ARO (pre.) A committee has been constituted by the Commission for the examination-2023. The committee has been instructed to prepare a detailed investigation report on all aspects soon. UPPCS preliminary exam will now be based on the old pattern only.

Generally the examination of Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission is conducted in two phases. First prelims and second mains. Earlier this examination was to be held in four shifts on 7 and 8 December. But, now the same examination will be held in two shifts in a single day.

Students were protesting against conducting examinations in several shifts. Candidates said that different examinations will be conducted in different shifts. The students had expressed apprehension that some shifts may pose easy questions and some may also be difficult. In such a situation, if there is a system of one-day examination, it will be better. The students had said that this would not create any kind of dilemma among them.

Apart from this, students had also objected to normalization. The protesting students had expressed apprehension that normalization would cause widespread harm to them. With this, the shift in which there are more students will be more likely to get more marks in the examination and in which there are less, they will get less marks. Keeping this in mind, the students were demanding to conduct the examination in one day.
