The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has received nine bids from highway developers for the proposed six-laning of the nearly 90-km Jaipur–Kishangarh section of National Highway 48 in Rajasthan, the government said on Sunday.

The project will be implemented under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode. Approved by the Centre in February 2026, the project is expected to be awarded within the current financial year.

The upgrade aims to convert the corridor into a semi access-controlled highway through the construction of flyovers and vehicular underpasses (VUPs) at major junctions. Service roads and slip roads will also be developed along the stretch to improve traffic management.

According to the government, these measures are expected to ease traffic flow, streamline vehicle movement and improve safety along the corridor.

Once completed, the upgraded highway is expected to reduce travel time between Jaipur and Kishangarh from around two hours to about one hour, while also increasing the vehicle carrying capacity of the route.

The development of continuous service roads will help separate local traffic from high-speed highway traffic, reducing congestion and improving operational efficiency.

Officials said the project will also enhance road safety by reducing conflict points at junctions through the construction of flyovers and underpasses. Dedicated service roads will provide safer movement corridors for pedestrians and local traffic.

The government added that the project will be implemented without additional land acquisition, which is expected to help in faster execution.

Apart from improving travel for commuters and freight movement, the project is expected to strengthen regional connectivity, enhance logistics efficiency and support economic activity in the region.
