New Delhi| The country’s mobile phone production increased to Rs 5.25 lakh crore in 2024-25 from Rs 4.22 lakh crore in 2023-24. With this, smartphones have become the largest commodity exported from India.

According to the Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA), the country has generated smartphone exports worth more than Rs 2 lakh crore in 2024-25, which have grown 55 per cent year-on-year. This shows the potential of India’s growing electronics sector. The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme has played an important role in this change. This is helping to achieve capacity, achieve global investment and become a major manufacturing hub for the world. The scheme has attracted substantial global investment, strengthening the country’s position in global value chains as India’s competitiveness increases.

The report said recent changes in global trade dynamics, especially US retaliatory tariffs, have opened up strategic opportunities for Indian electronics in the US market. On the other hand, Axis Capital said, India is strengthening its position as a global manufacturing hub. Value addition in electronics manufacturing has increased from 30 per cent to 70 per cent.
