Mahakumbh 2025: Handicraftsmen of UP got Sangam market, will have a turnover of 35 crores

New Delhi| Mahakumbh is proving to be a golden opportunity for the handicraftsmen of Uttar Pradesh in 2025. This Mahayogik festival held at Sangam in Prayagraj has organized a spectacular exhibition of ‘one district, one product’ (ODOP) in an area of 6000 metre square. Here carpets, zari-zardoji, glass toys of Firozabad, wooden toys of Banaras and other handicraft products remain the center of attraction for the devotees.

Sharad Tandon, Joint Commissioner Industries, Prayagraj Division, reported that in 2019, Mahakumbh had generated a turnover of Rs 4.30 crore, while this time there is a possibility of a turnover of up to Rs 35 crore. This will provide new direction to employment and small entrepreneurs. There will be new opportunities for business and employment.

Flipkart has also set up its stall in Mahakumbh. Here entrepreneurs are getting a chance to sell products for free on their platform. A huge crowd of shoppers and visitors was being seen at Flipkart’s stall. Craftsmen from Kashi have introduced 75 products in the exhibition such as wooden toys, Banarasi brocade, metal repose, metal casting. GI (Geographical Indication) expert Dr. Rajinikanth explained that 75 GI products from Uttar Pradesh are being showcased under the ODOP scheme. These include red chilli of Varanasi, Banarasi saree, Surkha guava, Amla of Pratapgarh, brass utensils of Mirzapur and terracotta of Gorakhpur. Carpets from Kushinagar and glass toys and utensils from Firozabad also remain the attraction of the exhibition. Dr. Rajinikanth reported that out of 75 GI products, 34 are from Kashi region. He has played an important role in getting GI tags to give identity and security to these products. Along with this, efforts are also being made to bring the special works of Banaras like Thandai, Lal Peda, Banarasi Tabla and murals in front of the world.
