Jammu and Kashmir terror attack: Death toll rises to 7

Jammu| The death toll in the terrorist attack in Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir increased to seven. Another injured person died in the hospital in this attack. Officials said that the attack took place on Sunday on a camp of workers of a private company in Gagangir area, in which seven people lost their lives. Those killed included local and outsiders, who were working on building a tunnel between Gagangir and Sonamarg.

Those killed include: Faheem Nasir (Security Manager, Bihar), Angil Shukla (Mechanical Manager, Madhya Pradesh), Mohammad Hanif (Bihar), Dr. Shahnawaz (Badgam, Kashmir), Kaleem (Bihar), Shashi Abrol (Designer, Jammu) and Gurmeet Singh (Rigar, Gurdaspur, Punjab). Five injured are undergoing treatment at Super Specialty SKIMS Hospital in Srinagar. Security forces have cordoned off the area and started an operation to search for the terrorists. The attack took place at 8:15 pm on Sunday night.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on social media platform ‘X’, “I strongly condemn this cowardly terrorist attack on innocent civilians in Gagangir, Jammu and Kashmir”. Those involved will not be spared and strict action will be taken by the security forces. In these difficult times, I express my condolences to the families of the martyrs and wish speedy recovery to the injured.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said, “I strongly condemn this despicable terrorist attack on civilians in Gagangir”. I assure people that whoever is behind this act will definitely be punished. We have given complete freedom to the police, army and security forces. Our brave soldiers are in the field and they will ensure that the terrorists have to pay a heavy price for this act. My condolences are with the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. The entire nation stands with families in this hour of grief.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah strongly condemned the attack and called it a cowardly and despicable act of terrorists. “The number of laborers injured in the Gagangir attack is not yet final as some local and outside laborers have been injured”, he said. We pray that all the injured have a full recovery.”

As soon as the news of the attack was received, Omar Abdullah said, “There is very sad news of this cowardly and despicable attack on external laborers in Gagangir”. These people were working on an important construction project in this area. I strongly condemn this attack on unarmed innocent people and express my condolences to the families of the deceased.

PDP President Mehbooba Mufti condemned the incident, calling it “unintended violence”. Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee President Tariq Hameed Karra also condemned the attack.

Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference President Sajjad Gani Lone said, “I strongly condemn this terrorist attack in Sonmarg, in which two people have lost their lives”. My condolences are with these families. Criminals should be punished.”

At the same time, intelligence agencies believe that the killing of innocent, unarmed civilians is the result of the desperation of terrorists, who are in panic after the recent peaceful and public-run Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
