Jagdeep Dhankhar resigns as Vice President citing health reasons

New Delhi: Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar has officially resigned from his position, effective immediately. In a firm letter addressed to President Draupadi Murmu, he invoked Article 67(a) of the Constitution, citing health reasons and medical advice as the basis for his decision. Dhankhar acknowledged and appreciated President Murmu for her cooperation and the cordial relationship they maintained. Additionally, he extended his gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers for their unwavering support and guidance during his time in office.
He further added in the letter, “The warmth, trust, and affection I have received from all Members of Parliament will forever be ingrained in my memory. I am profoundly grateful for the invaluable experiences and insights I gained while serving as Vice President of our great democracy. It has been an unparalleled privilege to witness and actively contribute to the economic progress and unprecedented development of our country during this significant period.

“It has been a true honour to serve in this transformative era of our nation’s history. As I step away from this esteemed position, I take immense pride in India’s ascent on the global stage and its remarkable achievements. I firmly believe in our nation’s bright future and express my heartfelt respect and gratitude.” It is to be noted that Dhankar served as the Vice President of India from 2022 to 2025. He previously served as the Governor of West Bengal from 2019 to 2022.
