India-Pakistan: India stopped trade with Pakistan, banned all goods coming from neighboring country

New Delhi| India has once again taken a big decision to teach Pakistan a lesson as a haven for terrorism. Under this, the Indian government has banned direct or indirect import of any type of goods from Pakistan with immediate effect. According to the notification issued by the Commerce Ministry on May 2, this decision has been taken in the interest of national security and public policy. After this ban, now there will be a complete ban on all these imports of any product coming from Pakistan, whether it is direct import or indirectly through any third country.
This restriction imposed by the Government of India has been added as a new provision in the Foreign Trade Policy 2023, regarding which the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has made it clear that if import is allowed in any case, then it will be required for the Indian Government. Special approval will be required.
What was imported from Pakistan?
In 2024-25, between April and January, India had imported only $0.42 million from Pakistan. This includes copper and copper goods, edible fruits and dry fruits, cotton, salt, sulfur and soil and stones, organic chemicals, mineral fuels, plastic products, wool, glassware, raw hides and leather etc.
What did India export?
Talking about exports made to India, then in the same period India exported $447.65 million to Pakistan, which includes pharma products ($129.55 million), organic chemicals ($110.06 million), sugar, tea, coffee, vegetables, petroleum, fertilizers, plastics, rubber, auto parts etc.
India’s strategy to tighten the economic noose
Seeing the increasing tension after the Pahalgam attack, the Indian government also made preparations to tighten the economic noose on Pakistan. Under this strategy, India has asked the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to review the loans given to Pakistan. It has also started efforts to include Pakistan in the gray list of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). Pakistan’s economy will suffer a major blow due to inclusion in FATF’s gray list and IMF not granting loan approval.
Pahalgam terrorist attack, a look
In Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday 22 April, terrorists had brutally killed 26 people by firing indiscriminately at tourists. Terrorists dressed in army uniform first asked the tourists about their religion in the Baisaran valley of Pahalgam, saw their identity cards and then shot them saying they were Hindus.
