India has the fastest growing number of developers in the world!
New Delhi| Microsoft’s developer platform GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke said that India’s developers population is the fastest growing in the world. “Now that India has the fastest growing developer population in the world, it is difficult to stop India’s rise as a global tech titan”, he wrote on social media X.
Dohmke wrote in the next post that Indian developers have gone far and are increasing the use of AI to create Artificial Intelligence (AI).India ranks second in terms of the number of contributors to public productive AI projects. This makes it more likely that the next big AI multinational will take the continent.
According to the company, more than 17 million developers are using GitHub in India. Compared to 2024, it has seen an increase of 28 percent. The company further said that India has the second largest number of GitHub Education users, contributors to public generator AI projects and contributions to open source projects, showing India’s influence as a global technology leader.
AI has moved beyond the 2023 hype as Indian developers and organizations prioritize results over experimentation. India is the second largest developer community contributing to public generative AI projects on GitHub, after the US, with a 79 percent increase over the previous year.
India saw a 95 per cent year-on-year increase in contributions to these projects, ranking third globally behind the US and Hong Kong. GitHub predicts India could overtake the U.S. to become the world’s largest developer community by 2028.
