New Delhi| Low mobile telephone rates (low-cost mobile telephony) have been helpful in putting India on the path of digitalization. In the year 2022-23, 85 per cent of people over 15 years of age were using mobile phone connections. This figure of mobile phone users was 70.2 percent in 2022-21, just two years ago.

This information has come to light from a survey released by the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation. The number of internet users in India has also seen a lot of improvement in the last two years.

Information revealed in the survey indicates that the figure of Internet users in 2020-21 was 41.8 per cent. At the same time, it increased to 59.8 percent in 2022-23. Among them, people aged 15-29 account for more than 84.2 per cent.

According to the information revealed in the survey, “78.7 per cent of women over 15 years of age are using active mobile connections”. Just two years ago only 56.7 per cent of women in this age group were able to use mobile phones. At the same time, in 2020-21, only 83.2 percent of men were able to use mobile phones. Just two years later, in 2022-23, this figure of men using mobile phones reached 91.4 percent.

According to this new survey, “2 out of every 5 people are able to conduct banking transactions”. At the same time, 43.4 percent of people can use their mobile phones to send emails”

According to information revealed in the survey, about 94 per cent of the population had access to perennial roads within two kilometers of their place of residence and 93.7 per cent of people in urban areas had transport service available within 500 meters.

The availability of sanitation and drinking water has improved compared to two years ago and is almost complete. Out-of-pocket expenditure declined to Rs 1,446 in urban areas and Rs 950 in rural areas, indicating also improved access to healthcare.
