New Delhi| Activist short-seller Nathan Anderson, known for his high-profile campaigns against companies like Adani Group, has made it clear that he has not closed his company Hindenburg Research due to any legal or other threat and he is not in all his reports. I stand by everything said. Anderson told PTI that Hindenburg’s January 2023 report, which accused the Adani Group of “the biggest fraud in corporate history”, was the result of questions raised against the group in media reports. Adani Group has repeatedly denied all the allegations made in the report.

Anderson termed attempts to link Hindenburg with alleged anti-India groups such as the OCCRP and George Soros as “stupid conspiracies” and said his organization never commented on such things as he followed a policy of not promoting “stupid conspiracy theories”. Anderson last month announced the closure of his forensic research firm, which he founded nearly eight years ago. He attributed this to the intensity of the work and the unlimited focus it takes.

Asked why they decided to shut down Hindenburg when they could step back and hand the reins of the company to someone else, he said there was “no way to separate me from the brand. Hindenburg is basically synonymous with me”, he said, “If it was a software application or a bicycle factory, you could have sold the application or factory. But when it’s research from me, you can’t really give it to anyone else, and so I don’t ‘end’ with it. But if they (their team) want to launch a new brand, I’m happy to support the team, which I hope they will do.”

Anderson, who first came into limelight because of a report against the electric truck company Nicola. Along with this, Hindenburg, the company which was closed last month, had attacked the companies of major financial personalities including Carl Icahn’s Icahn Enterprises LP.
