Government asked Parliament for approval to spend ₹51463 crore extra in the current financial year

New Delhi| The government sought approval from Parliament on Monday to incur additional net expenditure of Rs 51,462.86 crore in the current financial year ending in March. A large part of this will be spent on subsidies on pensions and fertilizers.

The gross additional expenditure sought by the Government is more than Rs 6.78 lakh crore. Of this, Rs 6.27 lakh crore will be offset against the head of savings and receipts.

According to the second batch of Supplementary Demands for Grants introduced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Lok Sabha, the government’s net additional expenditure in the current financial year will be Rs 51,462.86 crore. Additional expenditure includes Rs 12,000 crore for fertilizer subsidy and Rs 13,449 crore for pension of government employees including Integrated Pension Scheme (UPS).

The total expenditure also includes Rs 8,476 crore for defiance pension and Rs 5,322 crore for the Department of Telecommunications.
