Festive season to fuel hiring spree

Lucknow: The festive season is going to start soon in the country. With the festivals coming, more work is expected in the e-commerce industry as well. In such a situation, different platforms have to work on staff management. In such a situation, it has been estimated that there may be an increase in the recruitment of gig workers and contract employees in the e-commerce sector by the staff management platform TeamLease Services. This increase will be especially for the upcoming festive season.

The e-commerce industry is expected to grow sales by 35% during the upcoming festive season. This increase is much higher than last year. This significant growth underlines the strong expansion of the sector and the growing confidence of consumers in online shopping.

Preparation to hire more people in e-commerce
E-commerce companies are preparing to hire additional employees to meet the growing demand during the festive season. This includes 10 lakh gig workers and 2.5 lakh contract workers to ensure seamless operations and timely delivery.
All major quick commerce companies are expanding to new cities and diversifying their offerings beyond groceries to include electronics, beauty, home decor, health and other general merchandise. This diversity reflects the firms’ ability to meet different consumer needs. Unlike grocery stores, which sell only essential items, these quick commerce enterprises act as online supermarkets, offering a wide variety of items.
In addition, they offer unique categories focused on festivals, adjusting their inventory to meet seasonal demand. After achieving the milestone of 20 lakh orders per day during March 24 last fiscal, the industry aims to surpass this record during the upcoming festive season, the report said.

Balasubramanian A, Senior Vice President and Business Head, TeamLease Services, said, “E-commerce will drive sales this festive season and lead to massive job creation. With 10 lakh gig workers and 2.5 lakh contract employees getting employment, the role of the e-commerce sector in job creation will be significant.”

“This job surge not only underlines the sector’s key role in job creation but also reflects its significant contribution to India’s vision of making India a $5 trillion economy by 2025. Projections suggest that by 2026, the inclusive nature of the sector will become evident, with tier 2, 3 and 4 cities and rural India accounting for over 60% of e-commerce demand.”
The National Logistics Policy, an attempt to improve cost-effectiveness and logistics efficiency by streamlining deliveries to remote areas, is one of the government’s driving forces behind this trend. During the holiday season, the strategy has a particularly big impact as it assures prompt and efficient order delivery across the country.
Due to the constant rise in demand for e-commerce services, it has been observed that e-commerce companies are moving in this direction. They are gearing up to recruit for a range of roles including delivery personnel, warehouse staff, and customer service representatives, as well as roles in packaging, labeling, quality control, and order fulfillment. This pre-planned strategy reassures all stakeholders by guaranteeing that the sector is well-prepared to manage the expected festive seasonal surge, maintain seamless operations, and timely deliveries.
