EPFO: Improving customer profiles is easy, the hassle of account transfer is also over; How much did EPFO change in 2025?

New Delhi| Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has made many big and important changes for crores of its customers in the year 2025. Their objective is to provide maximum facilities to the employees, make the processes digital and easy and bring transparency. These changes are related to policies related to updating profile, transferring PF account on change of job or higher pension.
1. Updating profile has now become easier
EPFO has simplified the process of updating profiles on behalf of customers. If your UAN number is linked to Aadhaar, then you can now update important information like your name, date of birth, gender, nationality, parents’ name, marital status, spouse’s information and date of commencement and end of job. No document is required for this and it can be done online only. However, if the customer’s UAN is prior to October 1, 2017, they may need the employer’s approval to change certain things.
2. While changing jobs, the hassle of PF transfer also ends
Often there was difficulty in transferring PF account after changing jobs. But after the new changes, this problem is also over. On 15 January 2025, EPFO has issued new instructions related to this. According to this, in some cases neither the approval of the old employer nor the approval of the new one is required for PF transfer. This feature will be available if there is a transfer of member ID associated with the same UAN and the UAN is linked to Aadhaar and issued after 1 October 2017. If two different UANs are linked to Aadhaar and the details (name, date of birth, gender) should be the same.
3. The process of joint declaration also became simpler
EPFO issued new guidelines regarding the process of Joint Declaration (JD) on 16 January 2025. Previously SOP version 3.0 was in force about this, which has now been removed and the members are divided into three categories. For example, those whose UAN is Aadhaar based can do JD online. Those whose UAN is old but verified with Aadhaar can also do JD online. Those who do not have UAN, Aadhaar is not verified or the member has died – there is a provision for a physical JD.

4. CPPS-Now new system of pension payment
From 1 January 2025, EPFO has introduced a new system, namely Centralized Pension Payment System (CPPS). Now arrangements have been made to send pension directly to any bank account in the country through NPCI platform. This will eliminate the need for PPO transfer between regional offices. Also, now it is necessary to have UAN-Aadhaar link while issuing a new PPO. With this you will be able to avail the facility of Digital Life Certificate (Life Proof). If a claim has been sent to another office by mistake, it will be sent back to the same office from where the claim came.
5. Clear picture on higher pension
EPFO has also clarified the policy in 2025 involving members who are taking or wish to take pension on the basis of higher salary. Based on suggestions received from various regional offices, it has now been decided that pension will be calculated in a uniform manner for all pensioners. Exempt institutions will have to completely follow the rules of the trust. Along with this, the process of recovery of dues and payment of dues will operate separately. The objective of these steps is to bring uniformity in rules, maintain transparency and follow the legal process properly.
EPFO services became modern and digital
These five major changes made by EPFO in 2025 have modernized and digitalized the services. The facilities are now accessible to the employees. Now it is easier than ever to update profile, transfer PF account or complete pension related work. These rules of EPFO are a big step towards further strengthening the convenience and trust of the employees.
