Elon Musk: Musk proposed to buy OpenAI

New Delhi| An investor group led by Elon Musk has proposed to buy artificial intelligence (AI) startup OpenAI for $97 billion. However, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has rejected Musk’s proposal. Altman also said that ‘if you want, we can definitely buy Twitter for $9.7 billion’ It is noteworthy that Elon Musk had bought Twitter for $44 billion in the year 2022 itself and later changed the name of Twitter to X.
Elon Musk’s own AI startup XAI and a group of investor firms have teamed up to buy OpenAI, the company that makes ChatGPT, for $97 billion. Elon Musk’s lawyer Mark Toberoff said that Musk wants to convert OpenAI into a non-profit research lab. On this proposal, Sam Altman wrote in a post shared on the social media platform X that ‘No thanks, but if you want, we can buy your Twitter for $9.74 billion’
It is noteworthy that in the year 2015, Elon Musk and Sam Altman together started the OpenAI startup. The two later came into conflict over leading OpenAI, and finally in the year 2018, Musk resigned from the board of OpenAI. Musk, who initially invested in OpenEye, had also sued the company last year. Musk alleges that the company was started as a non-profit research lab for the welfare of the people, but the company betrayed its objective. Elon Musk had invested around $45 million in the initial round in OpenAI. Those proposing to buy OpenAI include Elon Musk’s AI startup XAI as well as investors like Baron Capital Group, Weller Management, Atreads Management, VY Fund, Emmanuel Capital Management and At Partner VC.
