EEPC: Exports of engineering products to the U.S. rise to 18 percent; ninth consecutive month of increases despite tensions

New Delhi| Exports of engineering products from India to the U.S. rose 18 percent year-on-year to $1.62 billion in January, 2025. However, the country’s total engineering exports have grown by a modest 7.44 per cent. This figure has come at a time when US President Donald Trump has termed the high tariffs imposed by India and other countries as ‘very unfair’. At the same time, it has warned of imposing retaliatory tariffs from April 2 on countries that impose duties on American products.

Engineering exports to the U.S. rose nearly 9 percent to $15.60 billion in the April-January period of the current fiscal year from $14.38 billion a year earlier, according to data released Wednesday by the Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC). At the same time, exports to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) increased by 56 per cent to $610 million in January and by 45 per cent to $6.87 billion in April-January.

Exports increased in these countries also
The countries where India’s export of engineering products has increased include Germany, Mexico, Turkey, South Africa, France, Japan, Nepal and Bangladesh.

Exports to the UK, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, China, Italy and Spain have declined.
Increase for the ninth consecutive month despite stress India’s engineering exports have maintained positive growth for the ninth consecutive month despite tensions between several countries and rising trade protectionism, EEPC said. However, the pace of growth in January slowed to 7.44 per cent from 8.32 per cent in December. Total engineering exports in January stood at $9.42 billion, compared to $8.77 billion a year earlier.
