ECR: Unskilled Indian workers increasing abroad, increased two and a half times compared to 2021

New Delhi| The number of unskilled Indian workers going abroad is increasing. This means that the number of Indian workers working in grocery stores or parking spaces abroad is increasing. The government gave this information in response to a question in Parliament. According to the government, the number of such workers going abroad has increased in the last 3 years.

The Government reported that the number of unskilled i.e. unskilled Indian workers holding immigration check requisitioned i.e. ISR passports going abroad has increased continuously in the last 3 years. These Indian workers are allowed to go to countries with the same R category. ISR passport holders are generally unskilled and semi-skilled. According to government figures, where the number was more than 1.30 lakh (1,32,675) in 2021, it more than increased two and a half times to close to 4 lakh (3,98,317) in 2023.

Unskilled workers are people who do not need any special skills, education or training. Unskilled work involves manual labour, basic administrative work or any routine work etc. Unskilled workers generally get a basic wage. Unskilled work includes working as a grocery store staff, working in a fast food chain, cleaning the house, working as a staff in the parking space, etc.

The government also told the Parliament that to bridge the skill gap in the country’s population, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship) is providing skill development centers/colleges/institutions under different schemes. Providing skills, re-skilling and up-skill training through a large network of institutions. This training is being imparted in Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) through schemes like Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS), National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) and Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS). The government wants to make India a global skill hub. It aims to make India a reliable and high-skilled workforce source for different global regions.
