DGCA lifts special surveillance on SpiceJet

New Delhi| Aviation regulator DGCA said it has excluded SpiceJet from special surveillance. The airline has taken steps to address the shortcomings and has raised funds to meet its obligations.

On 13 September, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had placed the airline under surveillance arrangements, as financial constraints had affected the airline’s discharge of mandatory obligations related to aircraft maintenance.

The DGCA issued a statement saying that under the monitoring regime, the regulator conducted checks at various locations a total of 266 times. According to the regulator, it was ensured that the airline took appropriate corrective action against the deficiencies found during the on-the-spot checks.

“In view of this and due to the financial inflow of additional funds into the company, SpiceJet has been removed from the monitoring system”, DGCA said Last month, beleaguered SpiceJet raised Rs 3,000 crore from institutional investors and has since paid several dues, paid pending salaries to employees and entered into agreements with some aircraft lessors. Shares of SpiceJet were trading at Rs 66.80, up more than 1.66 per cent in afternoon trade on BSE.
