Claim in the survey: 24 lakh blue-collar jobs to be created by 2027

New Delhi| 24.3 lakh blue-collar (laboring skilled and semi-skilled) laborers will be required by 2027 in various industries in the country. Due to the rapid growth of quick commerce, maximum five lakh blue-collar jobs are expected to be created in this sector alone. Hiring platform Indeed has made this claim in a survey. Shashi Kumar, Head of Sales, Indeed India, said, the quick commerce industry in the country is on the path of rapid growth. We are seeing significant changes in blue-collar staff appointments to meet this demand. Quick Commerce companies hired more than 40,000 people in the last quarter to meet the growing demand for festive shopping and e-commerce.
Major cities like Delhi, Chennai, Pune, Bangalore and Mumbai are witnessing a significant increase in the recruitment of blue-collar workers as quick commerce is growing rapidly in these cities. Employment opportunities have also increased in tier-2 cities like Chandigarh and Ahmedabad.

The adoption of automation and digital tools is also changing the type of skills. Employers are in highest demand for talented employees who are equipped with five skills namely navigation and driving, digital literacy, data analysis, management and tech support. Its objective is to increase the capacity and efficiency of the workforce in a technology-driven environment. According to the survey, the average monthly salary of blue-collar workers, including delivery drivers and retail workers, is Rs 22,600. These employees also get bonus during peak season. Many companies also offer incentives like smartphones and referral rewards.
