New Delhi| Beijing has urged Washington to find a middle path regarding the ongoing tariff war between America and China. China’s ambassador to the US, Xi Feng, said a tariff war would devastate the world’s economy. Urging the US to end the trade war, he also warned that if Washington wants to continue the tariff war, Beijing is ready to fight the battle.

The Chinese ambassador to the US urged Washington to seek common ground with Beijing and pursue peaceful coexistence. He also said that if America wants to continue the trade war with China, China is also ready to retaliate. During an event in Washington, Chinese Ambassador Feng said tariffs would devastate the global economy. Pointing out the parallel between the Great Depression and the tariffs imposed by the U.S. in the year 1930, Feng said that harmony should guide the relationship between the world’s two largest economies. A good traditional Chinese medicine recipe usually includes many different ingredients, which reinforce each other. Similarly, the Earth is large enough to accommodate both China and the US. We must strive for peaceful coexistence rather than colliding. Instead of getting stuck in a losing situation, we should help each other in success.

The tariff war has virtually halted vast trade between the world’s two largest economies, with more than 100% of tariffs in each direction and a set of trade, investment and cultural restrictions. China’s top shipbuilding consortium on Saturday attacked a US plan to impose port tariffs on ships linked to China. While Japan, Taiwan and others are already negotiating or preparing to negotiate with Washington over President Donald Trump’s “Liberation Day” tariffs, there are currently no high-level talks planned with China.
