ChatGPT Turned Lawyer: Helped Man Get ₹2 Lakh Refund from Airline and Hotel – Here’s the Full Story
New Delhi: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is proving to be a major breakthrough in our world. Gradually, it is beginning to intervene in our everyday needs. Many people believe that in the near future, AI might pose a threat to human jobs. However, others argue that professional jobs aren’t at much risk. But a surprising case has emerged from the United States, where ChatGPT effectively acted as a lawyer and helped a man secure a refund of around ₹2 lakh (approx. $2,500) from both an airline and a hotel.
The individual shared the entire incident on the social media platform Reddit. He wrote, “I was supposed to travel from Colombia to Medellín. I had booked flight tickets, hotel rooms, and everything. But due to a medical emergency, I had to cancel my trip at the last moment. When I asked for a refund, both the hotel and the airline refused to accommodate my request.”
He explained that the hotel told him they had a strict no-cancellation policy, and the airline said the same. “I was about to lose around $2,500. I felt disheartened, but then I decided to seek help from ChatGPT. I typed a prompt asking it to act as a lawyer for me. I input all the details into ChatGPT and asked it to draft a legal letter.”
ChatGPT quickly accepted the command, reviewed relevant legal references, and drafted a compelling letter on his behalf. He then sent the letter to both the hotel and the airline. The hotel, though somewhat reluctant, agreed to refund the money. However, the airline was still unwilling to budge, stating that refunds were only possible in cases of death or life-threatening illness.

The man then turned to ChatGPT once again, informed it of the airline’s response, and asked it to draft another letter. This time, ChatGPT emphasized the medical condition and accused the airline of discrimination. He sent the revised letter back to the airline, and within just an hour, they refunded his money.
The man wrote, “If I hadn’t used ChatGPT, I would have had to hire a lawyer and pay legal fees. It’s hard to believe, but ChatGPT saved me from losing $2,500.”
