New Delhi| Congress once again targeted SEBI Chairman Madhabi Puri Buch and her husband Dhawal Buch. On the answers given by the butch couple, the main opposition party said that these answers raise even more questions. Congress stressed that the facts that have been put forward regarding their financial transactions have not been refuted by anyone so far.

This comment from the Congress comes a day after Sitharaman’s statement in which she had said that Madhavi Butch and her husband Dhawal Butch are defending themselves and presenting facts refuting the Congress’s allegations. “The Finance Minister has finally broken the silence of the central government on the issue of conflict of interest of the SEBI Chairman”, Ramesh said in a post on X Ramesh said, “She (Sitharaman) has said that the SEBI chairman and Butch are responding to the allegations of conflict of interest”. But these answers raise more questions.”

The Congress leader said that no one has yet denied the facts that have been put forward regarding the financial transactions of the SEBI chairperson and her husband. “The question now is whether the finance minister and the non-organic prime minister were aware of these facts at least since 2022″, he said. Do they really think that these facts are trivial and in no way compromised the functioning of the capital markets regulator?”

Ramesh asked whether the SEBI investigation directed by the Supreme Court against Adani Group has actually been impartial? “This case has not yet received a final hearing”, he said. Responding to a question on the Madhabi Butch episode, Finance Minister Sitharaman had said on Monday, “Some allegations have been answered… I think the facts have to be considered.” This was the first time Sitharaman had talked about this issue. Asked if she was satisfied with Madhabi Butch’s answers, Sitharaman said, “I am not here to decide it”.

In a joint statement issued last Friday, Madhabi Butch and her husband refuted allegations of inappropriate behavior and conflict of interest made by the Congress, saying they were false, malicious and motivated. Denying Congress’s allegations point by point, the butch couple said that they have made all the revelations and followed SEBI guidelines. “We are honest and true professionals and we have lived our professional lives with transparency and dignity”, the Butch couple had said He described his work record as “immaculate” and said he would respond to all “motivated allegations” in the future.
