Air India flight skids off runway in Mumbai
In another incident, an Air India flight arriving from Kochi veered off the runway during landing at Mumbai airport on Monday morning amid heavy rainfall, prompting a temporary suspension of operations on the main runway. All passengers and crew members were reported safe.
In a statement, Mumbai airport confirmed minor damage to the primary runway 09/27, and said operations were shifted to the secondary runway 14/32 to maintain flight schedules.
Sources said the aircraft, flight AI2744, suffered a burst in three tyres and engine damage after veering into mud. “The engine sucked up a bunch of dirt after entering the mud,” a source noted.
An Air India spokesperson confirmed the incident, attributing it to heavy rain during landing that led to the runway excursion.
