Why will all the candidates of the alliance contest elections on the symbol of SP in UP?

Lucknow| There is a new twist in the by-elections to be held on 9 assembly seats of Uttar Pradesh. Samajwadi Party has announced the names of candidates in the by-elections to be held on all 9 seats. Earlier there was speculation that SP would leave some seats for its ally Congress, but they announced the names of candidates for all the seats. However, SP President Akhilesh Yadav has given a message through a post on the social media platform ‘X’ that India Block is united and all the candidates of the alliance will contest the elections on the SP symbol only.

SP and Congress contested 80 seats in UP together in the 2024 general election. With the support of SP, Congress’s Lok Sabha seats increased. SP won 37 seats, while Congress won 6 seats. While the BJP could not repeat the charisma of 2014 and 2019 in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

After the success of ‘India block’ in the Lok Sabha elections, Congress was demanding five seats for the by-elections to be held in UP. There was a long tussle between the two parties regarding seat sharing. Akhilesh posted on his ‘X’ Joint candidates of  India block will contest on all 9 seats on the symbol of Samajwadi Party’s election symbol ‘cycle’.

Akhilesh talked about unity of the alliance. Akhilesh wrote, “Congress and Samajwadi Party stand united, shoulder to shoulder, for a big victory”. India alliance is going to write a new chapter of victory in this by-election. With the coming together of workers from the top leadership to the booth level of the Congress Party, the power of the Samajwadi Party has increased manifold. With this unprecedented cooperation and support, every worker of ‘India alliance’ has been filled with new energy by resolving to win all 9 assembly seats. This is an election to save the Constitution, harmony and honor of PDA of the country. That is why we appeal to everyone not to let even a single vote decrease, not to let even a single vote get divided. However, no official statement has been given by Congress yet.

By-elections will be held on nine assembly seats of Uttar Pradesh on 13 November, while the results will be declared on 23 November.
