2,500 Global Capability Centers to be established in India in four years

New Delhi| The number of Global Capability Centers (GCCs) in India is increasing rapidly. Meanwhile, 2,500 such centers are projected to be established in the country over the next four years, with office space exceeding 300 million square feet, according to a new report.

The country currently has over 1800 GCCs, located in 240 million square feet of Grade A office space in the Top Seven Cities. With this number, India remains the global leader in GCC. Since 2022, 100 new centers have been set up in the country in Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai and Pune, among other places, reports real estate advisory firm JLL India.

Bengaluru alone accounts for about 42 per cent of the total space of the GCC. Furthermore, the GCCs show close to 50 per cent of the active and ongoing space requirements in the top seven cities. U.S. based companies have taken a total of 60 percent of GCC’s place in the country.
According to Rahul Arora of JLL India, GCC in India is leading research and development in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Advanced Manufacturing. GCCs are no longer just service providers; They are becoming centers of global corporations, where Indian leadership is playing a vital role in shaping business strategies around the world.

He said that this change underlines India’s emergence as a hub of innovation, where multinational enterprises are building their future. Meanwhile, the GCC continued its strong momentum in India in the third quarter, contributing 30 per cent of the total global leasing volume (GLV).
According to Cushman & Wakefield, GLVs reached 24.8 million square feet (MSF) in the overall office area in the top eight cities in the third quarter, the second-highest quarterly leasing volume in the region’s history.
