‘Be it America or China, no country can ignore India’- FM

New Delhi| Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is on America tour. During a program in America, the Finance Minister explained the importance of India in the world and said that no country in the world can ignore India. Nirmala Sitharaman is in America to attend the annual meeting of the World Bank. Apart from this, the Finance Minister also participated in the program organized by the Center for Global Development.

In this program, the Finance Minister said that ‘PM Modi says that India’s priority is not to establish its dominance. We are the largest democracy in the world. We have the largest population in the world. Today every sixth person in the world is an Indian. In such a situation, it does not matter whether America is far away or China is near because no country can ignore India and India’s economy. Especially in a situation in which the Indian economy is growing rapidly

During this program, the Union Finance Minister also said that India is already providing financial help to its neighbors in their difficult times through IMF. Speaking at the program of Center for Global Development, the Finance Minister said that India has provided financial assistance to many African countries under the Line of Credit scheme, due to which institutions, roads, bridges and railway stations have been constructed there. Taking aim at the slow process of IMF, Sitharaman said, ‘We have been helping our neighbors long before IMF. I am saying this with full responsibility that I have no intention of undermining the importance of the IMF, but we have given money to our neighbors without any conditions. I don’t want to name those neighbors nor give any numbers because our neighbors are very dear to us.

The Finance Minister also met World Bank President Ajay Banga on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the World Bank. In this meeting, there was discussion between the two on private capital participating in global public goods, energy security and multilateral development bank reforms. During the G20 conference chaired by India, some recommendations were made by the Independent Review Group for reforming the Multilateral Development Bank, they were also discussed between the two.
