Central government’s gift to farmers, minimum support price of six crops increased

New Delhi| The government has increased the minimum support price i.e. MSP for Rabi crops. The purpose of this decision is to ensure fair prices to the farmers for their produce, so that their economic condition can improve.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the increase in MSP for Rabi crops during the marketing season 2025-26. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced this today after the Cabinet Committee meeting.

Issuing a notification, the government informed that the MSP for wheat has been increased from Rs 2275 to Rs 2425 per quintal. At the same time, the MSP of barley has been increased from Rs 1850 to Rs 1980 per quintal.
MSP on gram has been increased from Rs 5440 to Rs 5650 per quintal. MSP on pulses (masur) has been increased from Rs 6425 to Rs 6700 per quintal. MSP on mustard was increased from Rs 5650 to Rs 5950 per quintal. At the same time, MSP on sunflower has been increased from Rs 5800 to Rs 5940 per quintal.

This increase in MSP for Rabi crops is in line with the announcement made in the 2018-19 budget of the central government, which talked about fixing the MSP at least one and a half times the total cost of production. The increase in MSP will not only provide better prices to farmers for crops, but will also encourage crop diversity. This will bring stability in the agricultural sector and improve the income of farmers.
This new MSP increase is expected to enable farmers to gain 105 per cent more than the average production cost on their produce. Similarly, mustard will account for 98 per cent, lentils for 89 per cent, gram and barley for 60 per cent and sunflower for 50 per cent.
