At least 15 killed in Dhar road accident; PM Modi announces ex gratia for kin of deceased

At least 15 people were killed and several others injured after an overloaded pickup vehicle lost control and overturned in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district on Wednesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives and announced financial assistance for the victims.

In a post on X, the PM said, “Deeply pained to hear about the loss of lives in an accident in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh. I extend my heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this mishap. Prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.”

He added that an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) would be given to the next of kin of the deceased, while the injured would receive Rs 50,000 each/

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also expressed grief over incident. In a post on X, he wrote: “The road accident that occurred near Chikaliya Phata on the Indore-Ahmedabad National Highway in Dhar district is heart-wrenching. My deepest condolences go out to the affected families.”

He added, “I have issued directives to provide financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased, Rs 1 lakh each to those critically injured, and Rs 50,000 each to the injured. The Indore Divisional Commissioner and the Inspector General (IG) has been instructed to proceed to Dhar to oversee the medical arrangements for all the injured will be provided free of cost.”

Indore Divisional Commissioner Sudam Khade visited the hospital to oversee treatment arrangements and confirmed the toll.

“Approximately 46 people were travelling in a pickup vehicle. It overturned. Two to three of the injured are in serious condition. We have received information about 15 casualties,” he said.
