1.85 lakh crore to be spent on Diwali gifts, claims – double increase in online purchases

New Delhi| Gift transactions are expected to be highest during the festive season. Its effect is also visible on sales figures. According to LocalCircles’ survey, by Diwali, only urban Indians will spend Rs 1.85 lakh crore shopping for chocolates, bakeries, sweets and other gifts. Since September, people have bought gifts worth 1.2 lakh crores.

Along with this, it has been claimed in the survey that along with buying gifts from the shop, there is also a rise in online shopping. 36% of people are buying gifts online because of the festive offer. The survey is based on interactions with 31,000 urban households in 314 districts.


The survey on gift buying habits states that 53 per cent of urban people go to local markets and buy gifts themselves. At the same time, 21 per cent of people shop online. However, both prefer to go to the homes of their relatives or friends and give gifts themselves. Only 15 per cent of people are shopping online and making deliveries to relatives’ or friends’ home addresses.
